Switzerland
Primary teachers may apply for the French or German
speaking areas of Switzerland and must be completely
fluent. Secondary teachers (children aged 11-15) may
be able to teach certain subjects in English as there
are a growing number of English Immersion pilot programs
in Swiss schools. The subjects taught in English at
this level would likely be Music, Physical Education,
Art, Family Studies. At the high school level (ages
15-19) again, many subjects may be taught in English
such as Science, Mathematics, Geography, Physical Education,
English (literature) and History. Opportunities always
exist as well for German, French and Italian speaking
teachers.
Applicants should be aware that although the cost of
living in Switzerland is high, Swiss teachers subsidize
Canadian teachers to some extent. Applications must
be in by December 31st.
